Providing Solutions for Throughout the Fab
Chemours offers a wide array of world-class materials and expert technical support that enable the fabrication of semiconductors with products including Teflon™ PFA, FEP, and PTFE, Viton™ fluoroelastomers, Krytox™ high-performance lubricants and vacuum pump oils, Nafion™ ion exchange membranes, and Opteon™ and Vertrel™ specialty fluids.
Chemours’ high-purity PFA is inert, highly stable, and insoluble with broad chemical and temperature resistance features, making it an ideal material for semiconductor fabs and manufacturing equipment. It can be used to produce intricate and dimensionally complex fluid handling components, as well as ultra-high purity tubing used in the transport of critical process chemistries. The resistance of PFA to extreme conditions enables incredibly long service life in harsh environments. This ensures a safe working environment, increased fab reliability, and the highyield manufacture of semiconductor chips.
Components made from Teflon™ PTFE have exceptional resistance to high temperatures, chemical reactions, corrosion, and stress cracking.
Teflon™ FEP is known for superior electrical properties combined with excellent chemical resistance and high service temperatures. It provides outstanding low-temperature toughness and unique flame resistance, making it an ideal material for highly reliable cabling insulation inside critical tools, as well as across the fabs connected network or equipment and instrumentation.
Available in powder and liquid forms, Teflon™ industrial coatings offer nearly limitless versatility and function for a multitude of applications throughout the fab. Used within tools for critical wafer handling applications as well as in fab exhaust systems, Chemours’ industrial coatings provide the necessary corrosion and flame resistance to metal substrates that otherwise would not survive the harsh environments of the chip-making process, ensuring the peak equipment operation and safety.

Safeguarding Semiconductor Manufacturing Systems
Chemours also offers a portfolio of FKM products that provide broad chemical and temperature resistance, used in applications where seal integrity is critical for system performance. Viton™ fluoroelastomers have a reputation for withstanding high temperatures and extremely corrosive conditions. From hoses that can resist synthetic oils and corrosive fumes to gaskets and seals that keep critical systems working in harsh environments, it is trusted throughout the semiconductor industry.
Krytox™ high-performance greases excel in environments where hydrocarbon, silicone, and chlorofluorocarbon greases fall short, and they also outperform conventional vacuum pump oils, mitigating safety concerns, waste disposal issues, and maintenance challenges.
Krytox™ lubricants represent a class of chemically inert, exceptionally durable oils and greases. These versatile lubricants find widespread utility in semiconductor manufacturing, serving a multitude of functions, from ensuring the smooth operation of vacuum pumps to lubricating critical components in robotics systems. They are compatible with oxygen and other reactive chemicals and resistant to water washout.
Krytox™ lubricants have earned recognition from leading vacuum pump manufacturers and original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) for consistently meeting or surpassing essential performance criteria. They provide the essential protection and safety measures required in the semiconductor and advanced electronics industries.
Unveiling the Speciality Performance of Fluorinated Materials
As an amorphous fluoropolymer, Teflon™ AF has different properties. With an extremely low refractive index, it can function as a clear coating for optical devices, performing well in aggressive chemical environments with disparate temperatures and light waves (UV-IR).
Chemours Nafion™ ion-exchange materials consist of reinforced perfluorosulfonic acid films and dispersions commonly used for electrochemical deposition or metal plating in advanced wafer-level packaging processes. These materials provide excellent ion permeability as well as the necessary thermal, mechanical, and chemical stability needed to withstand the corrosive chemicals and pressure differentials found in electroplating systems.
Chemours realizes that performance is critical to prevent contamination of silicon chips. Opteon™ and Vertrel™ are used to clean the front opening universal pods (FOUPs) that hold silicon wafers in controlled environments. Superior and reliable cleaning of FOUPs and flip chips has made Opteon™ and Vertrel™ the solvents of choice in the semiconductor industry. They are also used as heat transfer fluids in power semiconductors or IGBT modules in high-speed trains and elevator drives. Opteon™ and Vertrel™ provide consistent and reliable performance in these applications and act as superior cleaning and heat-transfer solutions for industries like Micro and Nano Electromechanical Systems (MEMS/NEMS).
Pioneering Sustainability in Semiconductor Manufacturing
Chemours is committed to responsibly manufacturing its critical chemistry, and in 2018, announced a bold goal to eliminate at least 99 percent of fluorinated organic chemical (FOC) process emissions by 2030. As of its latest sustainability report, the company had exceeded the halfway point to its goal, achieving a 53% global reduction of FOC emissions against a 2018 baseline. Chemours continues to advance its abatement programs to meet its goal, including deploying state-of-the-art emissions control technology.
In addition to reducing emissions, Chemours supports circularity principles in developing sustainable solutions, promoting recycling and reuse, and fostering collaboration with customers and stakeholders. WILMINGTON - The Chemours Company (Chemours) (NYSE: CC), announces two changes to its Board of Directors.
On November 17, 2023, Board member, Curtis J. Crawford, Ph.D. retired from the Board effective November 22, 2023. Also, effective November 22, 2023, Alister Cowan BA, CA, has been appointed to serve as a director.
“On behalf of our entire Board I want to thank Curt for his dedication, leadership, valuable insights, and service to the stakeholders of Chemours since its founding as an independent company. We benefited from his distinguished career in business and his expertise and global recognition in corporate governance and boardroom leadership, and are better for it,” said Dawn Farrell, Board Chair. “We are pleased to welcome Alister and the wealth of expertise and financial acumen he brings to the Board from his years as a Chief Financial Officer in the energy sector.”
Alister Cowan currently serves as Executive Advisor at Suncor Energy Inc. He was previously the company’s Chief Financial Officer from 2014 to 2023. Prior to joining Suncor, Mr. Cowan served as Chief Financial Officer of Husky Energy Inc. from 2008 to 2014. Before joining Husky Energy, he held various positions with companies throughout Europe, New Zealand, and Canada. Mr. Cowan is a graduate of Heriot-Watt University in the United Kingdom and a member of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Scotland.
