Its success took root in 2009 when a seven-person team began researching silicon carbide (SiC) materials in a small lab. They started by developing their own SiC crystal growth equipment and then improving material quality through extensive experimentation and optimization of various growth factors.
The journey took a major leap in 2018 when Tesla’s adoption of SiC power modules in the Model 3 validated the material’s potential from a technical as well as commercial perspective. This sparked a global race among automakers and semiconductor companies to scale SiC technology, accelerating SEMISiC’s growth and positioning in the market.
“We were ready,” says Serena Sun, sales manager. “When the market shifted, we had the technology, the people and the equipment in place. All we had to do was expand and refine.”
Today, its wafers, qualified by dozens of leading international power device manufacturers, are exported worldwide.

Specializing in the research, development and production of SiC substrates, SEMISiC operates a fully integrated manufacturing line that spans crystal growth equipment design & manufacturing, powder preparation, crystal growth, wafer processing and quality inspection. Advanced inspection systems monitor defect density, resistivity, doping concentration and other key metrics to meet global standards. The company's commitment to quality is reinforced by IATF 16949 certification and a blockchain-based traceability system, ensuring consistent product quality, supply chain transparency and high delivery yields.
SEMISiC’s 100,000m² production campus, including 34,000 m² for crystal growth and 8,000 m² for wafer processing, houses 1,400 self-developed crystal growth systems. The scalable infrastructure supports high-volume production of 4-, 6- and 8-inch SiC mono-crystal substrates. Its growth systems are compatible with wafers up to 12 inches in the future.
In parallel, the company pioneered China’s first 8-inch mono-crystal ingots in 2021, followed by the country’s first 500 μm-thick 8-inch substrates in 2022 and refined 350 μm versions in 2023. By the end of 2024, it achieved a major milestone in 12-inch substrate research, reinforcing its leadership in advanced SiC development.
As 8-inch wafers emerge as the next standard for high-performance sectors like EVs, photovoltaics and energy storage, SEMISiC’s mature processes and disciplined systems uniquely position it to meet the technical demands and growing global demand.
It applies advanced SiC growth, refined doping control and precise resistivity and surface processing to meet diverse customer requirements across power and RF applications. It supplies conductive and semi-insulating materials with strict control over crystal orientation, thickness and surface quality, ensuring compliance with demanding technical standards. Its flexible delivery models support both high-volume and specialized custom orders.
SEMISiC is driving research in low-dislocation-density crystal growth (BPD, TSD, TED, EPD), wafer thickness optimization and electrical performance uniformity enhancement. It is also advancing the development of large-diameter wafers(12-inch) to refine processes, reduce costs and accelerate global SiC adoption over silicon
It is actively exploring emerging applications, with upcoming breakthroughs poised to expand the use of SiC substrates in sectors such as new energy vehicles, smart grids, 5G communications and AR glass devices.
