Productive Technologies Company Limited (PDT) is rewriting the rules for semiconductor manufacturing with cutting-edge equipment designed to boost productivity and reduce operational costs. In a fiercely competitive industry where precision, speed and operational efficiency are paramount, PDT’s advanced tools empower manufacturers to streamline processes and maintain a competitive edge.

Flagship products, such as the Cube and Octopus platforms, are redefining efficiency in wafer cleaning with groundbreaking designs that maximize throughput, minimize footprint and deliver top-tier performance. These platforms solve traditional bottlenecks, making them indispensable for fabrication plants, optimizing both mature and advanced technologies. In markets like China, where 28-40nm technology nodes remain critical for applications, PDT’s tools offer the operational efficiency to determine market success.

Distinguishing PDT is its forward-thinking approach to innovation. Rather than merely responding to existing market demands, it crafts tools that address current challenges and future-proof manufacturing operations. This foresight keeps PDT at the cutting edge of semiconductor technology advancements, driving its success in transforming production capabilities.

“We don’t focus on building tools that meet the current standard, we design them to deliver higher productivity while anticipating future needs. That’s our vision,” says CEO Liu Erzhuang.

Conquering the Challenges of Moore’s Law

PDT is addressing one of the semiconductor industry’s most pressing issues - the economic limits of Moore’s Law. For decades, that has driven the progress of the semiconductor industry, but in recent years, this trend has encountered significant slowdown.

While the technological side of Moore’s Law continues, albeit slower, the economic benefit of reduced costs pertransistor has stagnated. This shift has led to a cost plateau, particularly at smaller node sizes, such as seven nanometers and below.

Accustomed to improved performance without proportional price increases, consumers are now encountering a reality where additional features come at a cost. Manufacturers, in turn, face increased pressure to innovate while reducing expenses. This pressure is especially evident in non-critical equipment, which accounts for around 70 percent of capital expenditures in semiconductor fabs.

PDT provides significant value by delivering high-throughput, non-critical equipment, such as cleaning and deposition tools.

Powering Productivity in Power Devices

The CUBE platform, introduced in 2022, exemplifies PDT’s balance between technological progress and cost efficiency. Cube redefines single-wafer cleaning with its four-chamber system, delivering up to 80 percent more throughput than traditional two-chamber setups. Built to meet the rigorous demands of power device manufacturing and advanced materials like silicon carbide and gallium nitride, it is an essential asset for fabs looking to optimize for the future.

Cube is as smart as it is powerful. Its compact system integrates chemical delivery directly into the machine, significantly reducing its footprint while streamlining operations. The inline chemical mixing system offers fast and precise chemical management, improving productivity while maintaining the versatility needed for future advancements in semiconductor technology.

A client, previously relying on outdated two-chamber tools, upgraded to the Cube platform with stunning results. The increased throughput allowed the client to reduce capital expenditures by cutting the number of systems while dramatically boosting production efficiency. This enabled the client to manage rapid growth without stretching resources, lowering operating costs and streamlining production.

In just 18 months, Cube has made its mark, with eight systems already shipped to fabs around the globe, solidifying PDT’s position as a leader in productivity-enhancing solutions.

Maximizing Throughput in Semiconductor Manufacturing

Following CUBE’s success, PDT launched the OCTOPUS platform, a 16-chamber tool that takes semiconductor manufacturing productivity to new heights. While cleaning tools in the Chinese market use 8 or 12-chamber systems, which limit throughput, OCTOPUS addresses this challenge by increasing capacity by 33 percent, making it an ideal choice for fabs looking to scale production swiftly and efficiently.

Designed for front-end and back-end processing, OCTOPUS offers exceptional versatility. Its small-chamber design enhances particle performance and minimizes metal contamination, while its shorter chemical reclaim path boosts overall cleaning efficiency.

One of its standout capabilities is high-speed wafer transportation, processing between 750 and 800 wafers per hour, more than doubling the throughput of conventional systems. This efficiency makes it a game-changer for fabs looking to scale production without sacrificing performance.

An example of the platform’s impact comes from a leading DRAM manufacturer, which adopted OCTOPUS for backside and frontside processing. Consolidating its R&D operations into one tool, the company significantly reduced capital and operational costs while maintaining top-tier productivity.

Breaking New Ground in Solar Clean Technology

PDT’s innovation extends beyond semiconductors. The company has made significant progress in the solar industry by applying semiconductor-level precision to solar cell cleaning systems. Traditional solar cleaning systems relied on inefficient inline setups that cannot keep pace with batch processing speeds. Recognizing this bottleneck, PDT developed a solution featuring upper and lower decks, dramatically increasing capacity and reducing cleanroom space.

PDT’s solar cleaning system surpasses traditional five-plus-five setups, which typically process 12,000 wafers per hour. With its innovative seven-on-seven configuration, PDT increases throughput to 16,000 wafers per hour, matching batch processing speeds. This breakthrough enables solar manufacturers to scale production without expanding facilities or adding equipment, making PDT’s solution a game-changer for solar production.

Beyond its cutting-edge hardware, PDT offers comprehensive support services, from installation to ongoing process development, ensuring that clients fully optimize their production lines and minimize downtime. This holistic approach has earned PDT widespread recognition in semiconductor and solar industries.

Expertise Driving Innovation and Execution

Behind PDT’s success is a team of seasoned professionals, many of whom have worked at leading global semiconductor companies. These experts bring a deep understanding of market trends and technological needs, enabling PDT to craft solutions that address the most pressing challenges faced by the industry.

“Our team has accumulated industry knowledge over the past 20 years. We’ve used this expertise to redesign our tools, ensuring compatibility with current technologies while enhancing productivity,” says Erzhuang.

The team’s expertise in automation and data technologies ensures that PDT’s tools meet current demands while anticipating future industry needs. This forward-looking approach sets the company apart from competitors, providing customers with equipment that evolves alongside their operational requirements.

In a market where innovation is the key to success, PDT consistently delivers solutions that drive the future of semiconductor manufacturing and the solar sector, empowering manufacturers with the productivity they need to stay ahead.
