Pico Electronics was founded in 1967 by engineers Mr. Joseph Sweeney and Mr. Henry Spoldi, whose sole mission was to build the smallest, most reliable magnetic components on the market. Its in-house manufacturing techniques are specifically designed for precision at a small scale. The company excels in crafting components with intricate dimensions and routinely manufactures them using magnet wires as fine as gauge 52, less than one-thousandth of an inch in diameter. Winding and soldering are performed in-house, often by hand, using specialized equipment.

Historically, most of the components manufactured by Pico Electronics featured insulated leads. As the technology advanced, it switched to gull wing lead and J-lead surface mount models, which better align with modern board-level integration. Regardless of the shifts in form, what has remained unchanged is the underlying commitment to quality. Over the years, Pico Electronics’ role in supporting national defense and aerospace innovation has placed its products in some of the world’s most advanced systems, including guidance systems, aircraft, the International Space Station (ISS), and Sojourner. For instance, during the first Gulf War, a customer urgently required compact high-voltage transformers for a critical piece of equipment. Pico Electronics was able to design, test and deliver the components in just a few weeks—a timeline unthinkable for most manufacturers. The units passed all environmental and performance tests and were successfully deployed.
