“Our vision is to become the leading supplier of high value added silicon wafers for MEMS, sensors, RF filters and devices, and power devices,” says Kai Seikku, CEO of Okmetic.
Further bolstering its global presence, Okmetic was acquired by the National Silicon Industry Group (NSIG), a Shanghai-based silicon material company, in 2016. This acquisition has expanded Okmetic's capabilities in serving the semiconductor industry worldwide.
The firm plays a crucial role in the global semiconductor industry by providing the foundational silicon wafers essential for a wide array of devices that impact everyday life, ranging from smartphones and portable electronics to medical technologies. Okemtic has the most extensive 150 to 200 mm silicon wafer portfolio in the market, comprising silicon-on-insulator (SOI) wafers, high-resistant wafers, epitaxial (EPI) wafers and double-sided polished wafers.
Its SOI wafers are used in advanced electronics and MEMS applications. They offer significant advantages in terms of performance and power efficiency, making them ideal for high-speed and low-power devices. In addition, high-resistant wafers are essential for RF applications, including wireless communication technologies and sensors. High resistivity wafers reduce signal loss and improve device performance.
These wafers are integral to a wide range of applications across various sectors. In the automotive industry, they are used in sensors and power electronics, contributing to developing advanced driver-assistance systems (ADAS) and electric vehicles (EVs). Okmetic’s wafers are found in smartphones, wearables, and other smart devices in consumer electronics, enabling high performance and energy efficiency.
The industrial sector also benefits from Okmetic’s solutions, with applications in automation, robotics, and industrial IoT (Internet of Things). In addition, the company’s wafers are crucial in the medical field, where they are used in devices like medical imaging systems, diagnostic equipment, and implantable sensors.
The company follows sustainable practices that ensure its manufacturing processes are environmentally friendly. Okmetic aims to minimize its carbon footprint through energy-efficient production methods, recycling, and waste reduction initiatives. Its sustainability efforts reflect the firm’s commitment to responsible business practices and corporate social responsibility.
The company enhances technological progress by providing advanced, customized solutions for applications ranging from automotive and consumer electronics to industrial and medical fields. It ensures its processes align with environmental sustainability. This balanced approach, driven by innovation and responsibility, positions Okmetic as a key player in nurturing a sustainable future in the global semiconductor market.
