Laser processing has become a significant part of advanced manufacturing, where precision, process control and material performance influence production results. The 14th CIRP Conference on Photonic Technologies, known as LANE 2026, will examine developments in this field from September 21 to 25, 2026 at the Heinrich-Lades-Halle in Erlangen, Germany.
Established in 1994, the conference focuses on scientific findings and their application in industrial production. More than 300 participants are expected to attend, including researchers, technology developers and manufacturing specialists from the international photonics community. The event is organized by the Erlangen Graduate School in Advanced Optical Technologies and the Institute of Photonic Technologies at Friedrich-Alexander-Universität Erlangen-Nürnberg, together with the Bayerisches Laserzentrum.
The 2026 program covers laser material processing across process engineering and systems development. Sessions will examine microprocessing, macroprocessing and related production methods, while additive manufacturing will receive sustained attention throughout the conference. Other subjects include beam sources, laser-assisted processes, sensing and control, simulation and precision processing using short or ultrashort pulses.
Industry adoption will form a central part of the discussion. A dedicated workshop on laser applications for electromobility will explore manufacturing requirements associated with the sector. The program also includes sessions addressing artificial intelligence in laser-based manufacturing and adaptive feedback control. These areas reflect the growing need to connect photonic systems with data-driven production environments.
An accompanying exhibition will allow technology companies to present products and services to a specialist audience. The conference schedule also includes award ceremonies, a laboratory tour and a cocktail session at the organizers’ laser facilities in Erlangen. A fully anonymized review process, used by LANE since 2010, evaluates submissions according to scientific quality and innovation potential. The German Research Foundation is supporting the 2026 edition.
Semiconductor Review is serving as a media partner because LANE 2026 addresses technologies closely connected to semiconductor engineering and manufacturing. Laser processing, precision fabrication and photonic system development influence how advanced components are designed and produced. The publication’s coverage can extend the event’s value beyond Erlangen by examining relevant research outcomes and their implications for semiconductor technology providers.
LANE 2026 reflects the importance of maintaining a direct exchange between scientific research and industrial practice. Its emphasis on applied photonic technologies offers manufacturers and researchers a structured setting to assess how emerging laser methods may move from laboratory investigation into production environments.
