Over the past years, laser processes have found applications in different technological areas, including electronics, photovoltaics, and mechanical engineering.

However, there are also areas in which laser technology doesn’t have feasible applications due to the high throughput of the material. The problem can be addressed by increasing the efficiency of the laser processes while keeping equipment costs constant. The scanning solutions available in the market achieve scanning speeds of several meters per second, with accuracies of only a few µm.

The Laser Institute of Mittweida University of Applied Sciences started to develop new scanning concepts in 2008. One of these is polygon mirror scanners, which can reach a speed of kilometers per second. The first polygon scanners built at the institute were taken up by MOEWE Optical Solutions GmbH in 2018.

Today, MOEWE Optical Solutions develops, produces, and distributes high-speed laser scanners. The company also has an exclusive purchase and license agreement with the University of Applied Sciences Mittweida.

“Our specialty is high-speed laser scanners for material processing with laser power classes in the range of kilowatts.

We offer it to large electronics manufacturers, equipment manufacturers, and battery cell manufacturers,” says Prof. Dr. André Streek, Dipl.-Ing. physics with a doctorate in engineering, the managing director and CVO of MOEWE Optical Solutions.

Since 2020, he has been leading the supervision of cooperative Ph.D. TU Freiberg and Ph.D. 2021 in preparation for TU Dresden.

MOEWE Optical Solutions is regionally and nationally involved in a strong research network with its partners. The company is constantly developing scanning solutions to open up new fields of application. They also play a pivotal role in the development of an easy-to-use tool for laser machine and system manufacturers, which is a central part of their work. MOEWE Optical Solutions, in this way, offers complete scanning solutions as a replacement for conventional scanning systems. For instance, the company was able to replace a chemical wet process with a novel laser process in steel production. This was only made possible by the efficient and cost-effective use of modern high-power laser sources and MOEWE Optical Solutions’ fast scanning technology.

MOEWE Optical Solutions’ selling point is the achievable scanning speed with high-precision laser processing. They do this by using adaptive high-speed logic and associated electronics in addition to the actual precision in the production of the optical system. These are calculators, which otherwise are only used in high-priced medical or radar technology. None of Moewe Optical Solutions’ competitors can offer this speed and precision class.

“We are your reliable partner for high-quality industrial polygon scanners, which are characterized by a large aperture, compact design, and high optical robustness. Due to the full digitization of the device, a high level of accuracy and real-time integration into external coordinate systems can be offered. We're here to help,” says Dr. Streek.
