This is where JULABO USA excels.
A family-owned business based in Germany, JULABO expanded its operations to the U.S. in 1993, capitalizing on the emerging semiconductor industry and effectively combining the new technology with proprietary temperature control solutions. Building on the legacy of Ernst Juchheim, who invented the first glass-contact thermometer in 1926, the company leveraged semiconductors for its products to control the circulators employed for temperature control in various industries. Today, JULABO USA is led by Ralph Juchheim, Ernst’s grandson.
"JULABO’s history is perfectly aligned with the explosive growth of the semiconductor industry. JULABO was founded to find an alternative to mercurybased thermometers. In realizing the potential of electronics and sensors in temperature control applications, the company paved the way for the next generation of electronic controllers," says Dr. Dirk Frese, vice president of sales, marketing, and service at JULABO.
Its product range includes the SemiChill line of chillers that can be easily switched off during an emergency. These products can run on Galden and Fluorinert, as well as deionized water, which is favorable for semiconductor applications.
JULABO’s water-cooled PRESTO product line offers similar functionality, is highly precise and easy to run, and can be operated remotely from outside the manufacturing space. The remote operation mode makes it ideal for the semiconductor industry and other verticals involving flammable gases, helping avoid any ignition or explosion risks.
A customer-centric approach is at the heart of JULABO's corporate culture. The team proactively reviews its processes to continuously improve its products and manage risks.
In one instance, JULABO developed a new product, encasing its circulators in a special cabinet to make it compliant with the E.U. Equipment for explosive atmospheres Directive. This encasement allowed the client to use the equipment in explosive atmospheres without any risk of igniting gases around it. Building on this success, the company aims to include the solution as part of its portfolio of products.
To deliver customized solutions, JULABO actively engages with clients through multiple communication channels. They can receive consultative advice from its in-house application scientists or use the JULABO app to make calculations and select the right temperature control unit based on individual parameters.
It also offers online courses through JULABO University to keep clients and partners engaged. These courses are delivered in the form of videos, covering a broad range of issues, from basic thermodynamics to explaining the best use of its products.
Strategically located in Lehigh Valley, Pennsylvania, JULABO is in close proximity to numerous leading companies in the semiconductor and manufacturing space. With its line of products and infrastructure, the company is poised to meet the increasing demand for thermal solutions in mainland North America.

“The JULABO Subscription® model is not just for startups, or even small companies for that matter. It affords any size company access to the highest quality liquid temperature control equipment on the market without requiring a capital expense budget,” said Dr. Dirk Frese, VP of Sales, Marketing & Service at JULABO USA. “Our portfolio will remain available on a pay-per-product basis, but for us, this option provides yet another competitive advantage for our customers.”
“It was the ‘rent to own’ option that made this offering so compelling”, shared Stwart Peña Feliz, CEO of MacroCycle Technologies. “For the type of application this equipment will be serving, we may not know from the onset how long the unit will remain in commission. JULABO Subscription® gives us the peace of mind that we are only investing in this equipment for as long as we truly need it. It also allows us to have more freedom to upgrade our setup as needed further down the line and to retain additional capital for these upgrades as we continue to scale up for the months and years to come.”
JULABO Subscription® is being offered on select new units only for a standard term of 36 months. The package includes all the benefits of JULABO USA’s existing extended warranty plan, JULABO Shield, including shipping to and from the customer and shipping for all warranty repairs throughout the duration of the subscription, up to six years. In addition, customers are ensured that the monthly payment schedule established upfront is fixed for the duration term, independent of future price increases.
