Redesigning FPGAs for Modern Applications
A recent success story accurately demonstrates GOWIN’s commitment to customer satisfaction. A U.S. customer had been using a leading vendor's FPGA for its products.
The client’s design was built over a decade ago, and they were hesitant to change it. The challenge was to port the design in the 28-nanometer process to a new 55-nanometer FPGA. Adding to this, they were running DSPs at 300 MHz, which was not supported by the 55-nanometer solution. They were also using a CPU specific to an older version of Windows.
To address this issue, GOWIN used its partnership with ARM to license the Cortex-A1 process as a soft core in the design start package. However, the customer's CPU was a proprietary standard, requiring a complete software code rewrite and hardware and board redesign.
GOWIN re-architected the DSP, combining it with the fabric to run at a speed its solution could support. It rewrote the entire software code to make it run on the ARM. In addition, the team redesigned the board and developed an RTL design code, delivering the complete solution in three months.
